We overheard a teacher telling a student to use the inverse when the teacher really meant find the reciprocal.

These terms are NOT interchangeable.

Here is an example: take the function ** f(x) = x ^{2}**

The inverse is ** f ^{-1}(x)=√x** (in fact this is only a function when the domain is restricted)

The reciprocal is **f(x) = 1/x ^{2}**

f^{-1}(x) ≠ 1/f(x)

^{DON’T MAKE THIS MISTAKE !!! }
